The first of several longer hiking days today. Luckily i procured a cap in Macchakhola before we left at about 7.45am and we had an amazing and challenging hike again involving skirting over thin trails high above the river and over landslide areas. The trick with these was just to never look at them. Not up above, or below. Just look where you are walking and avoid fear/vertigo! A lot of concentration required. We passed through some adorable villages and stopped to let a lot of mule trains pass. We stopped at a very quaint restaurant in a small village and i felt very restored afterwards, unfortunately Cath disagreed and said she felt tired after sitting for an hour! Lots of slippery rocks and mud throughout the afternoon. The valley widened out closer towards Jagat and we walked along a metal walkway along the cliffside before descending to a mercifully flat last few minutes walking before reaching the village. After about 8 hours walking we were ready to stop for the day and found a delightful pink guesthouse on the edge of the village where some nice Australians we’d met were also staying. Cosy blankets for a slightly cooler night (and a bit of rain after we arrived).
We went to register our permits of the tourist office (confusing) and had a nice dinner. We hung out our clothes that were already soaked from sweat and would learn from now on that they would no longer dry overnight-lovely.
17km and 8 hours walk
