23- Elk River Trail, Strathcona

The rain just about held off for this walk mostly. We were a bit confused as we’d heard that it was about a four hour walk but as we read up more on it we learned it was about 6 hours one way and was an out and back trail. I decided i’d got about 4 hours walking in me that day so we only did a portion of this walk sadly, though it would have been lovely to have done the whole thing and camped over night at the far end if i’d planned it better. None the less, a pretty foresty walk surprisingly not hugging the river all the much on the part we were on. The first part of this hike was up some steepish switchbacks- not what was expected of a river walk! It dipped down again after the hill though and the rest of the way was a pleasant, easy trail crossing some creeks. Lots of moss and dampness as is standard out here and we have some good chats and snack stops as well as meeting some overnight campers on their way out of the trail. A good walk with good friends.

#23- estimate about 12km or so in the hours we did.
