15- Tofino Beaches trails

Oh wow, I did this walk the day after moving to Tofino on a whim as i was offered a job here and had heard how beautiful it was. I was not disappointed. In the morning I woke up early and walked down to Coastal Bliss yoga for a meditation session. Following this I found my way onto Mackenzie beach and was immediately in awe. Apparently this beach gets a lot busier in summer but on a surprisingly sunshiney day at the start of March it was wonderfully quiet. I briefly explored the rocky outcrops near Ocean Village resort and strolled along feeling very smug that this was to be my new home. I followed the little roads around Bella Pacifica campground to find the little hidden trail onto Middle beach which was even quieter. I suppose a lot of people who visit the area and don’t have maps.me installed on their phones wouldn’t know about this beach. There’s one resort on the far side of it but only so many people would stay there. Middle has lots of comfy driftwood to sit on and dark rocks to the sides of it. It’s fairly small length wise and sometimes water flows down into the sea in snaking channels after the rainfall. Surrounding the beach is dense, damp foliage. This is my absolute favourite beach in the area by virtue that (fingers crossed) it is quieter than others and it is possible to trail walk there from Tofino. It’s one place since moving here that has stopped me feeling trapped by my lack of transport

After resting here a while i joined the delightful gravel Tonquin trail heading back into town. About a 25 minute walk back, there are plenty of gorgeous ocean viewpoints and lookout points, as well as paths onto teeny rocky third beach and beautiful Tonquin beach with it’s rocky isles, caves and tidal pools to explore. A parents dream for occupying small children i would imagine. Watching the waves crash and eagles soar I knew that whatever happened during my time in this town i wouldn’t regret moving here. Since this walk; little things that niggle me about this place (how hipster some people are and how expensive groceries are!) are overshadowed every time i look at the ocean or see an eagle. Nature is truly king here and i adore it.

Number 15- about 6/8km of sheer beauty
