2- Horseshoe Pass and Velvet Hill

A great weekend away with my mother in January before i travelled back to Canada. A bit of a risky business going to Snowdonia in January but it paid off mightily. This beautiful walk is by Llangollen so we stopped there on the way up to do this. We parked up after driving on a very narrow little bridge and walked down the river briefly before beginning to go over fields and up a hill. Walking alongside the hill i began to doubt my very rudimentary directions for quite a while, luckily we were on the right track and ended up at the pub we had expected to come out at. Whilst the pub was closed, we sat on their benches outside and had a snack and the coffee we’d brought with us. If i recall correctly, the sun was shining not too badly and the wind was light so it was very pleasant sat there. Shortly after this we walked through some very muddy manure entrenched fields before spotting a beautiful old abbey in the valley. We proceded to climb a ridiculously steep hill to get to the top of Velvet Hill- mother was not amused as she copes with uphill trudges even worse than i do. The views were stunning though and we enjoyed walking the top before scrambling down the other side to get back to the car. A gorgeous walk with my beautiful mother.
