1-Wye Valley

What a calming, glorious day this was. After a late and delicious breakfast with my foodie friend Esther who i was staying with in her adorable farmhouse cottage we set off to Symmonds Yat. A very quaint place with a hand pulled ferry to get from one side to the other, i fell in love with Symmonds Yat immediately. We strolled along an easy path along the flat river bank surrounded by towering forested cliffs and had a good catch up. We passed many large groups and families with a menagerie of small children and dogs- all out for their New Years day stroll. We crossed the terrifying Bilbins suspension bridge high above the water to the other side and continued on a while. Eventually after a picnic lunch we turned back and on arrival into Symmonds Yat extended our walk and went up to Symmonds Yat rock. We were rewarded with gorgeous views and a lovely dog to stroke. A wonderful start to the hiking year. Thanks to the lovely Esther for a great day- you are an inspiration and a constant in my life.
